Die Now, Die Later! Page 18

So now we catch up with Mallory and Captain Moko Kwaid. Apparently, he hasn’t been back to his boat yet to see the havoc that Kiro the assassin wreaked on the crew. I think I have to say, that so far this is my favorite page of Bunny Wiggins art.
A crap storm will be brewing when the captain gets back to that boat.
That is, if the Captain gets back to the boat! Stay tuned…
I dont know why, but that captains looks reminds me of the guy who used to play the generic enemy asian guy in all those old war movies. I cant think of his name… its bugging me! o.O
There were a few of those.. I think Peter Lorre was one. I think there was a Korean-American actor named Philip Ahn who played a lot of those caricatured portrayals of the wartime villains. Apparently, he even received death threats.
I have a very uneasy feeling about what's ahead for the good Captain. That hugging drawing works very well and you did a spectacular job on downtown Manawaju, Jerry. I can see why you like this page so much, I do too.
Thanks! I was particularly happy with the hugging scene. it was also fun doing the signage in the first panel… I would come up with weird store names and plug them into the translator widget on the Mac. We'll see what happens to the Captain in a few pages… one of the downsides of doing this once a week, is that plot resolutions get stretched over too long of a period!
I really like this lull before all heckage breaks loose. The conversation is easygoing and believable and the art suited the mood perfectly. Good job, Jerry!
Thanks George!… and believe me… some major heckage will be unleashed soon! One of the challenges is making the dialogue believable… sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't… but I spend a bit of time tweaking it until it sounds like something the characters would say.
Is that Mio in the dress shop??? I have a feeling that the Captain will be with the story for a while longer yet. A bit of vengeance upon Kiro perhaps.
Yes… It is Mio in the dress shop!
Thought it would be nice to finally tie together some of the story elements. As to the fate of the good Captain, we haven't seen the last of him… or of Kiro!
The lighting and highlights are nicely done on this page. It gives it some real depth.
I guess this is the quiet before the storm!
Thanks! I modified my coloring method a little bit in photoshop… it seems to punch up the color, and make things more moody. I'm always tweaking the coloring method, hoping that I get something a little better! Half the fun I have with doing the comic is experimenting with new ways of doing stuff.
Yes this is the quiet before the storm… a minor storm first, followed by a much larger one later on!
Every page I read makes me want to read the next page to see where things are going. That's got to be a sign of good writing. Kudos 🙂
Thanks James! I like hearing that… especially coming from an author! This has been a totally different writing experience from what I'm used to, and it's been lots of fun.
Great page! The alleyways pop out at you almost as much as the cleavage!
Thanks! That the alleyways pop out nearly as much means that I've done my job! 😀
I agree! 🙂
I agree great alleyway. Also cool moment between Mallory and the captain.
Thanks Chris! I like that scene too… it's one of the rare times in the strip where someone is acting like a decent human being!
