So… After several pages of carnage, we get to see the fearsome power that Joy has… controlling emotions. I think she may become one of my favorite characters!
I wanted to take a minute to mention that I was recently asked by Tom Dell’Aringa, to contribute a Marooned guest strip for a print collection that is included in the Kickstarter campaign for his Marooned graphic novel. Tom and I were once part of the now defunct Comic of The Month Collective, back in 2008 – during my Muddlecreek era. I was quite flattered to be asked… and had lots of fun drawing Tom’s awesome characters… Thanks, Tom!
The Joy of… Joy! I think you're going to have a lot of fun writing and drawing her! Fab character design by the way – in particular her Dr Evil / Blofeld inspired mini-dress and the fact that it looks like her hair and make-up were done by 'The Cure'! Yep – great work.
Thanks, James! I'm quite happy with the Joy character… she's another one that's fun to draw, and she has a distinct personality…she becomes more interesting as the weeks go on. After this story, we won't be seeing these characters for a few weeks, but they play a big role in the next story. I mean, after all, our title character has to run afoul of them somehow!
Yeah, Jerry, that Joy character has a lot of potential and really adds new depth to the storyline. Good job. -v
Thanks Vince! We'll see where it leads! I've thought that the stars of the current story have some spin-off potential… but one thing at a time.
I never get the gold star
I don't either, Bearman… I always seem to get the consolation prizes. I have more Rice-a-Roni than I know what to do with!
Oh, goodness! She and my wife have the same power! 😀
I hope she uses her powers for good, George!
Let's just say, she's good at using her powers.
I was, sniff, going to leave a comment, and sniff, tell you how much I enjoyed this strip, Jerry, but I'm just not feeling very happy right now. I'll get back with you later.
It’s alright Mark… I’ll let you know when she leaves the room! Just try and pull yourself together…. 😀
So Joy spreads sadness?
Yes… But she can also spread happiness, anger, pain, etc. by stimulating portions of the brain with the energy she gives off. None of this has been explained in the story yet.
Seeing those grown soldiers/guards crying just brings an emotional feeling to your comic Jerry that us blokes can relate to. sniff, sniff, I need a tissue…
I'm glad that I have my finger on the pulse of blokehood!:D
Gold stars are awesome!
Aren't they? I wish I had some… but as I was telling Bearman, they only give me Rice-A-Roni (The San Francisco Treat)!
No wonder I was sad today! I thought it was because I had to go back to work! But it was Joy all along.
Great art, Jerry. I love Joy's stance and expression. Excellent!
And I'm glad the girls didn't just have Joy control their emotions from the beginning. Otherwise, we wouldn't have been witness to the sexy bloodshed! Exhilarating and repulsive all rolled up.
Thank you for bringing that up Joseph… there is a reason she didn't go in in the first place. Joy had orders to stay in the van and supervise (I mention it on page 1 of Megalith)… It's explained further at the end of the story. When the mission was in jeopardy, she went in to rescue the other girls. She has to be in the area to control emotions, and couldn't effect them without physically being there. I do think of these things!
Touche!
Also, your sergeant is so cool looking! He reminds of the sergeant on Full Metal Jacket.
Thanks! I think I fell back on the traditional "Sergeant" look… that was fun to do.
He's no R. Lee Ermey, that's for sure!
True… otherwise he'd be calling the men "jackwagon", and shouting at them to get some self esteem!
